Soma Side Effects

Soma is classified as a powerful muscle relaxant. The generic name is Carisoprodol. Also known under the brand names of Vanadom and Soma. It is normally prescribed for recurring muscle spasms and chronic back pain. The effectiveness of this medicine is very high due to the way it works. The pain itself is not targeted, but the communication between the brain and nerves that register pain are interrupted. Once this occurs, the whole body is relaxed. Most physicians will prescribe 350 mg. regiments as needed.

Just like all medications, there are side effects. It is vital that the prescribing physician be aware of all medications that are being taken by the patient which includes prescription, natural and over the counter medicine. Taking vitamins and minerals in combination with Soma can cause side effects. Certain illnesses will trigger dangerous reactions so along with a list of medications, the doctor also must be aware of what type of medical conditions the patient is dealing with. If liver or kidney disease and any disease that is considered seizure-like in nature is present, your doctor most likely will order certain tests to insure the safety of the administration of the dosage.

Women who are pregnant or planning to have children must inform their physicians of this. Soma can cause harm to the unborn child, therefore it is not recommended. Soma may be habit-forming for some. Withdrawal episodes may occur if the medication is stopped suddenly. A gradual decrease in the dosage is suggested. Increasing the dosage without the consent of a physician can lead to an addiction.
